Make a beat online in five steps

Open daw.veena.studio and sign in with Google. Set the tempo by dragging or tapping it in (40 to 300 BPM) and pick one of 24 keys.
Program the drums. A drum clip opens in the Beat Maker: 16 steps per bar, with Kick, Snare, Hihat and Hihat Open rows always showing and more rows a click away, from Clap and Side Stick to toms, Crash, Ride and Cowbell. Step 1 is the downbeat. A bar of 4/4 has 16 steps, so beats 2, 3 and 4 land on steps 5, 9 and 13, and each "and" lands on steps 3, 7, 11 and 15. Paint these into the Beat Maker and you have the skeleton of each genre.

Trap. Keep the kick sparse and let the 808 carry the weight. Paint the straight 8th-note hats yourself, then ask CoProducer for "16th-note triplet rolls into beat 4" and it writes the roll timing for you.

Boom bap. The kick on step 8 is the push that makes the groove nod. Drag the offbeat hats down in velocity, and ask CoProducer to "swing the hats" rather than nudging every step by hand.

Drill. The half-time snare is the same as trap; the character is in the kick placement and the 808, which slides from note to note. Give the melody strings or a dark pad and leave room for the vocal.

Lo-fi. Side Stick instead of snare, velocities low, and chords that do the talking: Electric Piano sevenths over a finger bass.

BandLab's AI beats aren't yours. SongStarter runs on Tokens, 15 a month for every user, and BandLab's own help centre says "you won't own the rights to the generated track" (BandLab's help centre, September 2026). A beat you don't own is a hard beat to sell.

Soundtrap's beatmaker is solid, and its WAV is paywalled. Patterns Beatmaker offers more than 100 kits on a step sequencer, but free accounts export MP3 or OGG only, and some loops and instruments are locked to paid plans (Soundtrap's site and support centre, September 2026).

Amped Studio's free plan boxes you in. Its beat maker stops at 16 tracks per project, exports MP3 only, and saving your own samples or custom drum kits with a project needs Premium. Its AI Assistant, $12.99 a month after a one-time demo, builds from "audio stems from a sound library database" (Amped Studio's beat maker, pricing and AI pages, September 2026).
