Does Veena have a piano roll?

Yes. As of September 2026, every MIDI clip in Veena opens in a piano roll with a Draw Tool and a Select Tool, 8 snap settings, a velocity editor and a range from C0 to C9. It's free on every plan, and CoProducer edits the same notes for you when you describe the change in plain words.

Can I import MIDI files into Veena?

Yes. Drop a .mid or .midi file on the timeline or use Upload. Veena creates one clip and track per MIDI track or channel, maps General MIDI programs to its own instruments and puts channel 10 on drums, so a multitrack MIDI file opens in Veena as an arrangement you can edit straight away.

How do I quantize MIDI in Veena?

Select the clip and ask CoProducer, for example: quantize the bass to 1/8 notes. It moves the notes on your existing clip, and one Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) reverses it. To place notes on the grid yourself, set Change Snap in Veena's piano roll to the value you want before you draw or drag.

Can I export MIDI from Veena?

Yes. Download MIDI file in the piano roll saves a single clip, and Export in the account menu writes every MIDI track of your Veena project into one .mid file. There's no cap on exports on any plan, and audio tracks are simply skipped and named, since they have no notes to write.

MIDI Editing in Veena's Piano Roll: Notes, Snap, Velocity

MIDI editing in Veena happens in the piano roll, where every note that CoProducer writes, you record or you import is a block you can move, stretch, re-pitch or delete, free in your browser. Anything you'd rather describe than drag, CoProducer edits for you: humanize, quantize, extend or re-voice a whole clip, or only the bars you name.

Open the piano roll

Click a MIDI clip on the timeline. The dock at the bottom shows its tabs, Piano Roll, Instrument and FX, and the arrow keys cycle between them. Drum clips show Beat Maker in place of Piano Roll, a step sequencer covered in beats and drums. Need more room? Press Expand Piano Roll.

MIDI editing in the piano roll, step by step

Draw notes. The Draw Tool is on by default: click the grid to place a note on the current snap position.
Move and resize. Drag a note to change its time or pitch; drag its right edge to change its length. Resize several selected notes and they scale together.
Delete. Right-click a note, or select notes and press Delete or Backspace.
Select, copy, paste. Switch to the Select Tool and drag a box around notes. Ctrl+A selects every note in the clip, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V copy and paste, and Esc clears the selection (Cmd on a Mac).
Set the grid. Change Snap offers None, Bar, Beat, 1/2 Beat, 1/3 Beat, 1/4 Beat, 1/6 Beat and 1/8 Beat. It starts at 1/4 Beat; use 1/3 or 1/6 for triplets and None for free placement.
Shape velocity. Drag the bars in the velocity editor under the notes, from 1 to 127, to accent a downbeat or tuck in a ghost note.
Move octaves. Ctrl+↑ and Ctrl+↓ move selected notes an octave, anywhere from C0 to C9. Show Note Names labels every block.
Listen. Click a key on the piano strip to audition it, play along on your computer keyboard (Z and X shift the octave), and press Space to hear the clip in the song.

Ask CoProducer to edit the notes

Select a clip, open Ask CoProducer and describe the change:

"Humanize the piano and the hats, but keep the kick dead on the grid."
"Quantize the bass to 1/8 notes and shorten every note by half."
"Extend this 4-bar melody to 8 bars, with a variation in the last 2."

CoProducer edits your existing clip in place (re-voicing, extending, humanizing, quantizing), keeps its instrument, and treats each change as one step you can undo with Ctrl+Z. It works the same on a part you drew by hand, one you recorded and one it wrote itself.

MIDI in, MIDI out

Import: drop a .mid or .midi file on the timeline or use Upload. You get one clip and track per MIDI track or channel, with General MIDI programs mapped to Veena's instruments and channel 10 on drums.
Export one clip: Download MIDI file, in the clip's piano roll.
Export the song: Export in the account menu, then MIDI, writes every MIDI track into one .mid. Veena's 808s and synth basses arrive in other DAWs as a General MIDI synth bass, since the format has no 808. The full list of formats is in export formats.

When something looks wrong

Notes jump to the grid when you want them loose: set Change Snap to None.
No Piano Roll tab: the selected clip is audio; audio clips show Waveform and FX. Ask CoProducer to transcribe it first.
A change you didn't want: Ctrl+Z undoes it, whether you or CoProducer made it; Ctrl+Shift+Z redoes it.
